[Indigenous Beauty Spotlight] Satya Organic Skincare

In solidarity with the Indigenous peoples in Canada, during July 2021, we will be highlighting Indigenous-owned beauty brands and founders on our Blog. Liv'Ez Co. acknowledges and pay respects to the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations for allowing us to operate on their unceded territory in Vancouver, Canada.

Founded by Patrice Mousseau; Satya specializes in care that soothes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin with plant-based, fragrance-free, and steroid-free products.

Meaning "higher truth" in Sanskrit, Satya was founded by Patrice Mousseau when she began creating her organic eczema relief care right in her kitchen after her daughter, Esme, was diagnosed with eczema and prescribed a steroid cream. As Esme was young, Patrice wasn't completely on board with using steroids on her skin, and sought out to create something new, effective, non-toxic, fragrance-free, and backed with scientifically-supported research to treat Esme's ailments.

Thus, with a Crockpot, Organic Calendula Petals, Organic Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Jojoba, and Organic Colloidal Oatmeal; Satya was born.

Originally from Ontario, Patrice is part of the Ojibwe and Fort William First Nations, and currently resides in Vancouver, BC. Prior to establishing Satya, Patrice had career in broadcasting and journalism and worked for APTN and CBC for over 15 years. She never imagined pivoting so drastically into becoming a beauty brand owner and skincare formulator, but she's never looked back since. She says, "Quite often I’m just like: ‘I can’t believe that this is what I’m doing now’.”

However, despite their humble beginnings, Satya products are not without merit; they are USDA certified organic and a certified Natural Health Product (NHP) by Health Canada. Unlike other balms, Satya Organic Eczema Relief has been determined to be safe, effective, and of high quality; and has been issued applicable product licences by Health Canada.

Alongside over-the-counter health products, supplements, and products with health and beneficial claims, including hand sanitizer; Satya complies by the same strict regulations for manufacturing, formulation, and research. Therefore, each customer can be sure that they are purchasing a hygienically-manufactured, effective, and natural eczema relief product.

Satya Eczema Relief

Nowadays, Satya Organic Eczema Relief is available at over 600 stores in Canada and has also successfully entered stores overseas in Hong Kong. Her product, originally for Esme, is now providing natural care and relief for eczema sufferers all over the globe.

Finally, beyond the product, Patrice has a firm belief in sustainability and innovation, so she grew Satya alongside Coastal First Nations’ Great Bear Rainforest Initiative and is carbon-neutral. Patrice and Satya are also recipients of multiple Indigenous business awards, including: BC Aboriginal Business of the Year and Startup Canada’s Indigenous Entrepreneur of the Year
